Who we’re looking for

We're looking for an experienced, yet hands-on Lead Engineer, who is able to inspire others as a leader and contribute as a developer. Someone, who has experience in building high-quality games and is expected to bring to the table strong technical execution and to provide vision for tech across our projects. In our closely knit team, you need to be able to wear many hats and our ideal candidate is very comfortable with our collaborative and dynamic environment. 

As an integral member of the TreasureHunt team, you will collaborate with company stakeholders and take full ownership and responsibility on all things engineering across the company. You will also be responsible for engineering performance and execution on our very exciting UNIVERSAL partnership project.

Working with the engineering team in Berlin your role will be to design and drive the future direction of tech at TreasureHunt. This includes designing the technical architecture of games and other in-house software being developed by TreasureHunt, improving the development processes of these games and managing resource allocation (engineers, hardware, software) for the development of said games and software. 

You will work closely with other department directors to ensure that the engineering teams on the games deliver in a timely and efficient manner. You will also be responsible for driving the engineering & overseeing IT infrastructure initiatives for TreasureHunt to ensure reliability of our infrastructure. This position is located in Berlin with occasional required international travel and managing a team of direct reports. You will report to the Production Director and liaise with the leadership regularly.
Your Responsibilities

  • Work with production, design and art team leads to create task estimates and schedules for the engineering team and track development efforts across the team;

  • Balance active code development with the requirements and responsibilities of a team lead 

  • Owning the delivery of practical and timely solutions by the engine team that meets the game design and technical requirements;

  • Develop and define the long term technical solutions and strategies for the engineering department

  • Ensuring code and features are modular, and in line with the technical constraints by leading regular tech / code reviews;

  • Defining programming best practices and standards, and ensure they are implemented within the engineering team

  • Work with the leadership of the company and  providing direction for technology and its utilisation across our projects 

  • Monthly top management update with departmental directors about the state of the product and discipline

  • Ensure the team is fully resourced, (Engineers, Hardware, Software) and encourage an active learning culture 

  • Plan, prioritise and set targets and objectives for the department

  • Empower your team members with clear expectations and hold them accountable for their results

  • Create the environment for initiatives and ideas to emerge and grow;

  • Provide your team members with ongoing feedback on performance and development


Your Profile
  • Experience managing and leading an engineering team or teams across various projects

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science (Computer Science / Engineering, Information Systems or related). 

  • Minimum 10 years of work experience 

  • At least 5 years of experience with Unity Development and Mobile Game Development (iOS/Android) with involvement in at least 3 mobile F2P full production cycles including live operations

  • Experience with designing and driving development of large scale systems and distributed software systems 

  • Extensive experience and awareness of the whole Software Development Life Cycle for games and experience with handling each stage of the life cycle 

  • Experience with designing architecture of games and other software systems 

  • Experience with setting up and running various processes needed for engineering teams 

  • Experience with setting up and running processes for monitoring performance of engineering teams 

  • Experience with scaling up teams and hiring highly skilled engineers 

  • Experience with project management processes and techniques relevant to Engineering 

  • Self-starter who is a resourceful, hands-on player willing to be both strategic and tactical, balancing priorities to meet deadlines and exceed expectations 

  • Excellent communicator with fluent spoken and written English. German is not needed 


  • Ideal candidate is obsessed with software architecture, code quality and product delivery processes 

  • Advanced degree in computer science or engineering is a plus

  • Experience in high-growth start-up or technology company other than games is also beneficial
